Irene Alvarez
Chief Operating Officer

Irene Alvarez serves as vice president of engagement, marketing and communications for the Columbus Partnership, where she oversees program planning and content development to engage business and community leaders in strategic efforts that benefit the Columbus community. Her role includes leadership of new initiatives and programs with internal teams and external partners and driving efforts to build the Columbus brand and global identity. She’s also the organization’s chief brand officer, providing strategic oversight of marketing and communications for the Columbus Partnership, One Columbus and Smart Columbus.

Irene has spent over 15 years working in tourism, advertising, and economic development. Prior to her role at the Partnership, she was managing director of marketing and communications at Columbus 2020 where she led the organization’s marketing and media relations programs. Under Irene’s leadership, Columbus 2020 won dozens of national and international recognitions for its marketing efforts; including brand development, websites, promotional materials, and integrated campaigns.

She also helped lead the development of the Columbus brand that has been adopted by dozens of organizations throughout the Columbus Region, setting a new standard for the practice of collaborative place branding. 

Irene is passionate about causes focused on the welfare of children, and is a volunteer with Camp Sunrise and CASA of Franklin County. She’s a recipient of Columbus Business First’s 40 Under 40 award, the international Economic Development 40 Under 40, and completed the Young American Leaders Program at the Harvard Business School as a member of the 2018 Columbus cohort. She holds a Bachelor of Science in communication from Ohio University.
